Join Harker, a Liverpool-based software development company, for a week-long work experience placement. We're a fast-paced and forward-thinking company working to create an innovative software platform for homelessness charities. Alongside shadowing team meetings, you'll also get to complete your own independent software project guided by our full-time software developers. This placement takes place in our office in CENTRAL TECH. Dates are flexible throughout the summer.

Placements With Us

We offer a tried-and-tested work experience placement that differs from your typical ‘shadow this developer’ placement. Our offering is much more hands-on and personalised.

At Harker, your placement will involve:

• Completing your own independent software project with guidance from our developers
  • We give you time to get up to speed with the programming language (PHP) before you start the project
  • This will be your project to show off in future applications and we can support you with making it presentable
• Sitting in on team meetings, namely our weekly strategy meeting and team software meeting
• An employability session covering CV, Personal Statement and LinkedIn advice
• A dedicated ‘buddy’ - a member of staff who you can go to for support
• Writing a blog post reflecting on your time with us

Our placements are flexible with start and end times each day, including a long lunch break.

During your placement at Harker, you’ll also learn about entrepreneurship at a small start-up company.

A Different Perspective

As a start-up company with a small team, you will gain insight into entrepreneurship and what it’s like to be your own boss. We hope that we can inspire you with a career path that differs from the traditional large corporate job, one where you can use the skills you’ll learn at University to build something ambitious from the ground-up. Our entire team is young (we’re all in our 20s or younger) so not much older than you!
